If you would like a personal relationship with God, He’s waiting to hear from you. He has made the way clear and did everything He could to bring you to Him through Jesus Christ. What He desires you to do is repent, believe in Jesus Christ as God’s Son and your Savior, and confess your faith to others.
Repent
means to turn and go the opposite direction. If you have not accepted the truth
about Jesus, you are currently traveling a
way from God. God wants you to turn
around and come to Him. The way to do that is by changing your opinion about
Jesus. The Bible says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with
God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). John chapter one also tells us that He
made all things, in Him was life, and He is the light of men (verses 3 & 4).
Verse 14 of the same chapter tells us that the Word became flesh and lived among
us. John is talking about Jesus Christ. John also tells us that Jesus is the
only begotten Son of God (3:16), that He died on a cross to pay the debt of sin
for us (chapter 19), and that He rose again and appeared to many people in the
flesh (chapter 20 and 21).
Another aspect of repentance is admitting that we are sinful and rebellious in God’s sight. Romans 3:23 says, “for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” As long as we remain clothed in the filthy rags of sin, rebelliousness, and self-centeredness, God will not allow us into His kingdom. Romans 6:23 reminds us, “For the wages of sin is death.” Our sin separates us from God on earth. And if we don’t come to Him through Jesus Christ, we will be separated from Him for eternity.
Everyone will pass from this earth, but God wants us to pass from death to eternal life so He planned the way for us to do that through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. The loving, compassionate, merciful nature of God enabled Him to put into effect the drastic measure of crucifying His Son who was without sin. Paul writes, “God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21). When we ask Jesus to forgive us of our sins, God strips us of our filthy rags and clothes us in the glorious righteousness of Jesus thus preparing us for a new home in eternity. The last part of Romans 6:23 states, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
This offer offends many people. They think God is being exclusive. However, He has opened His plan of salvation to all humanity. Second Peter 3:9 reveals, “The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” Anyone who receives this offer will be saved. God has given us a free will and will not force us to make the right choice even though it is His desire to spend eternity with all of us.
God wants you to come to Him. He has carried out His plan of salvation through Jesus Christ so that you can come to Him. But, it is your choice where you will spend eternity. God does not send anyone to hell. It grieves Him more deeply than words can tell to pass that verdict on a living soul. We are given the choice. The choice that you make after receiving this information will determine where you spend eternity. Will you turn toward God, exchange your filthy rags for Jesus’ righteousness, and spend eternity in His kingdom?
I confess that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son. I believe that He came to earth in the flesh, that He was crucified, dead, and buried. I believe that He rose again the third day, that He walked, talked, and ate with many people as Your word declares. I believe that He ascended into heaven where he sits at the right hand of God. I believe that He did this to cleanse me of my sins so that I can spend eternity with You in heaven someday. I ask you, Jesus, to forgive my sins and help me to live my life for You.
Thank you for shedding Your blood on the cross that I can be saved.
In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
God has established a network of believers to help us grow and mature in our faith. We are a unit and need each other. You need a church family and they need you. When Jesus entered your life, He gave you the Holy Spirit as a comforter, teacher, and guide. The Holy Spirit brought gifts for you to use to worship and honor God. Your church family can help you discover your gifts and the best ways to use them effectively for our Lord. Ask God to show you the church in your community that He wants you to join.
We thank God for you and welcome you as a brother or sister in Christ Jesus. We look forward to meeting you when He returns to gather His family to live with Him.
